Evidently, some little wild thing approved of my setting up a fall display on our front porch. The morning after set-up, some of the gourds had been rearranged and one of the ornamental corn cobs was missing some kernels. I guess I will just wait for further developments in the mystery; I highly doubt the creature culprit will 'fess up.
